MacOS (OSX) Setup Guide
Last updated: March 23, 2026
Note: ScreenKin currently uses the Truple app for MacOS monitoring. While ScreenKin is developing its own dedicated apps, the Truple app provides the underlying technology for Mac devices. Follow the steps below to set up monitoring on a Mac.
We're working on a major update to the MacOS app and are looking for beta testers! If you'd like to try out the beta release, please reach out through the support chat.
Notes
Two things to be aware of with the current version of the monitoring app for Mac.
- This version of the app for Mac does not currently support blacking out banking websites. We strongly encourage the use of the image blurring feature to hide private information that may be captured.
- The Mac app is signed with a self signed certificate. This means 1-2 extra steps will need to be taken in order to run the app (which are described in the instructions below). You may get a warning stating the app could be dangerous.
Prerequisites
- Mac OS 10.14.4+ (specific version of Mojave, Catalina, Big Sur)
- No action required--skip straight to the Instructions below.
- Mac OS 10.14.3 (specific version of Mojave) to El Capitan
- The app requires the Swift 5 runtime libraries. Please download and install them from here prior to installing.
- Mac OS 10.9 (Yosemite) and older
- The app will not run properly on Mac OS X Mavericks and older.
Instructions
-
Download the Truple app from https://mac.truple.io/prod/truple.macos.installer.pkg. (Because of the self signed certificate, trying to open the installer directly won't work--you'll get a warning message. Instead go on to the step below.)
-
The next steps differ depending on the version of MacOS you have.
On new versions (Sequoia+) of MacOS, please do the following:
- Open
System Settingsapp - Click
Privacy & Security - Scroll down to
Securitysection, and clickOpen Anywayfor the Truple installer.
On older versions of MacOS, please do the following:
- Open the
Finderapp - Go to the
Downloadsfolder control + clickorright clickon thetruple.macos.installer.pkgfile, then selectOpen
-
Read the warning message. Click
open. -
Install the application by clicking through the installer. At the end, the app should open automatically.
-
Click
Get Started -
Login with your ScreenKin parent account*
-
Answer the questions
-
You'll then be prompted to grant the Screen Capture permission for the Truple app. Click
Open System Preferencesto do so. -
Check the box near the Truple app.
-
Click
Quit Nowto shutdown the app immediately. -
Open the Truple app again (if it didn't automatically relaunch) to start monitoring (it will now have access to the screen)
-
A reboot is required after the first install to initialize some of the anti-tamper features. At your convenience, reboot the machine.
-
The parent can adjust the device's settings (image blurring, screenshot frequency, etc) from the ScreenKin parent dashboard.
* If you are setting up the Mac remotely (the device is not physically present with you), you should not share your ScreenKin credentials. Instead, have the device user follow the instructions for adding a device to your account, which will allow them to request access without needing your login credentials.
